Description:
This project is currently near construction. Classen School of Advanced Studies was originally constructed in the 1920’s. Several renovations and building additions have occurred throughout the life of the building. Upon completion, the renovated building will accommodate 931 students. The renovation will include 155,845 square feet of existing floor space and 1,911 square feet of new classroom space. New classroom space will be created by infilling an abandoned indoor swimming pool and capturing unused 2nd and 3rd floor foyer space. The renovation will address building code issues, update mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, provide a fire sprinkler system, and provide new interior finishes throughout the building. Exterior improvements include re-paving an existing parking area, improving storm water piping, cleaning & repair of brick and cast stone, and providing accessible entrances to the building. During construction, the students will remain in the building. An extensive phasing plan has been developed and temporary classroom building will be located on site and to aid in the construction process. The construction is set to begin in April 2010 and will take place over a twenty two month period.

Description:
Ridgeview Elementary school project is a remodel, repair and addition to the existing school building to accommodate 383 students and is one of many OCMAPS early start projects. The building additions total approximately 10,222 square feet with spaces consisting of music/fine art classroom, media center, administrative offices, student services and support. Influential factors in our design for Ridgeview Elementary included; developing an inviting entrance, enhancing the existing structure’s unique architectural elements, and striving to meet Ridgeview Elementary’s specific functional needs. The Administrative area was re-located adjacent to the main entry, allowing good visibility of the student drop-off, ease of visitor check-in, and providing an enhanced main entry. The design also features the central location of the Special Needs classroom within the building across from the current Media Center area. The new Media Center is located north of the existing Cafeteria taking advantage of the north light for the reading/circulation room. Music and Art are located at the end of the east wing for greater sound isolation from core instructional spaces.
